AECOM’s Highway Department has an exciting new opportunity for an Entry Level Civil Engineer to provide engineering services on complex highway and infrastructure projects in Norfolk, VA office. You will be joining a talented technical team that manages design tasks in multiple elements of civil engineering design with an emphasis in transportation projects including:
Highway design (alignments, geometry, cross section, guardrail, storm drainage, traffic control, etc.)
Plan and construction documents preparation
Site grading and drainage
Hydrology and hydraulics
Erosion and sediment control
Traffic data collection and analysis
Traffic impact studies
As an Entry Level Civil Engineer in the Highway Department, candidates may be exposed to a number of different types of projects including design for roadways, drainage and stormwater management, bridges, and tunnels. Responsibilities may include developing plans and details using Microstation or Autocad, performing calculations, estimating/tabulating quantities, performing design tasks, helping to develop presentations, prearming for meetings, attending field visits, and performing field inspections. Candidates must be willing to work in the office and in the field.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering or other related field required
Working knowledge and familiarity with roadway construction plans is a requirement
Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software Strong written and verbal communication skills
Be organized and detail oriented
Understanding of engineering principles
Willingness to travel (if and when required)
Must possess a valid driver's license
Previous intern experience with a design or construction related firm is desirable
Basic knowledge of some industry standard computer software for the position (examples include software such as CADD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS)
Some working familiarity with state DOT’s or similar public works organization is preferred
