Position Title Aircraft Mechanic Helper

Job Summary

Performs apprentice Painter tasking’s under the direct supervision of the Senior Section Supervisor or certified painter on common painter related tasking’s. Washes/cleans contract units and performs other non-complex duties as directed. Learn safe work practices on various contract units and components.

Essential Responsibilities:

1) Assists aircraft or vehicle mechanic in servicing, repairing, and overhauling aircraft and aircraft engines and vehicles.

2) Adjusts and replaces parts such as control cables; fuel tanks/cells; ignition components; tires; batteries and filters using common hand tools.

3) Removes inspection plates and panels; cowling, engine covers, floorboards; and related items to provide access for inspection and repair, and replace items when work is completed.

4) Disconnects instruments, ignition systems, fuel and oil lines.

5) Assists in dismantling, repairing, overhauling or replacing parts and assemblies such as engines, plumbing and hydraulic/pneudraulic systems, and aircraft structural sections.

6) Performs routine duties such as furnishing materials; tools and supplies to aircraft or vehicle mechanic; lifting and holding materials in place during maintenance operation; and cleaning work areas, machines, tools and equipment.

7) Cleans aircraft and vehicle interior and exterior parts and assemblies with solvents or other cleaning solutions.

8) Inflates tires, fills fuel tanks/cells and oil reservoirs, and lubricate aircraft or vehicles using grease gun.

9) May assist flight line mechanic in servicing and repairing aircraft prior to flight.

10) Receives on-the-job training for upgrading to perform other duties as directed by the Supervisors.

11) Removes exterior coating, prepare the surface and applies new top coating to aircraft surfaces and components.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud or unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position may require travel. Additional work area considerations consist of PPE requirements for media blast and paint application. Candidate will be required to complete a full respiratory physical (Company provided) within 30 days of employment.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle. Must be able to obtain a NAC:I and a CAC for network computer access.
