Job Summary

The Environment team in Calgary/Edmonton is looking for a Field Technician to assist with groundwater monitoring programs, environmental drilling investigations and remediation activities. The successful candidate will be working within a team of other technicians and junior engineers under the supervision of professional engineers and geologists.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to

  • Assisting in all aspects of environmental projects including proposal preparation, laboratory procurement, subcontractor coordination, desk studies, field work, and report preparation

  • Working in a team environment as well as independently

  • Any other duties assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Education : Diploma in Environmental Technology/Geological Technology or similar

  • Experience: 0-2 years

  • Knowledge/Experience:

  • Groundwater Monitoring – purging and sample collection from monitoring wells

  • Drilling – environmental drilling, ground disturbance procedures, soil description and monitoring well installation

  • Soil sampling – field screening, soil sample collection procedures

  • Field notes – taking organized and details field notes, recording observations

  • Safety – leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contribute to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans and a day to day basis, recognizing hazards

  • Technical report writing – using spreadsheets, word processing and standard office software, able to compile and interpret field and analytical data into accurate and comprehensive summary reports

  • Technical Skills:

  • Strong team work, able to listen to requirements and work well with others

  • Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to work

  • Strong communication skills

  • Possess excellent report writing skills in English

  • Ability to learn new tasks

  • Flexible and hard working

  • Willing to travel within the province/country for work

  • Enthusiastic, positive and highly driven

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment

  • Focus on efficiency

  • Certificate : Valid and unrestricted driver’s license
